Fall Fashion Must Haves

Autumn is in the air…it’s time to start thinking about (or wearing!) your transitional wardrobes.

While you’re doing this, there are some trends you HAVE to incorporate into your wardrobe this season.

Even though it seems that things are starting to slow down and hibernate, your fall wear should be anything but snooze-worthy. Take a look at some of the best trends for women’s fall fashion this year and see if you can add any of these to your autumn styles!

Jewel-Tones

First, let’s talk about autumn colors in fashion.  I know you may think about something more neutral, like browns and khakis, which are great but don’t be afraid to infuse some color into your fall wardrobe!

Of course, there are the ones you may be thinking of already, like deep rubies, yellows or orange hues.  Don’t forget purples, which are hot this year, in both bold regal purple and lavenders.  Jewel-tones are trendy and a nice way to bring some energy into your style.

This wine-colored leather dress is what dreams are made of! See how I styled it here!

Are you loving jewel-tone fall looks as much as I am?

Millennial Purple

As mentioned above, purple is very much in for this fall.  Most notably, the go-to color is Millennial purple.  What is Millennial purple? It’s a lilac or orchid hue that you find a lot of this fall in women’s outfits.  You can go all out and wear a monochromatic look from head to toe, or you can just add little touches of purple to your fall outfits in the form of accessories.

Are you excited to transition from Millennial Pink to Millennial Purple?

Gold

Autumn clothes are not just cropping up in yellow hues, but they are showing up in actual gold. This is another great option for fall. While you will see a blast from the past in gold lame pieces, but you’ll see metallic gold knits. There are even pieces that look positively gilded like gold bricks!

Think a gilded styles is award worthy?

Animal Print

I have to say, personally, this is the trend that I am obsessed with this year.  True, animal print is one of those fashions that never truly goes out of style! But in this case, it has persisted through summer and is staying through fall.

I’m definitely going to be shopping my closet for the leopard print blouses and the snuggly leopard scarf I already have, but I’m also adding some fresh new pieces.

See the post on styling animal prints for some amazing ways to style this new neutral!

Accessories are always a safe way to try a trend, but I challenge you to go bold! Try some leopard print sneakers, rock a zebra print t-shirt, or wear some to work! Styled the right way, you can wear animal print in casual fall outfits to autumn workwear—basically anywhere!

Is animal print a fall fashion that is driving you wild?

Leather

You’ve probably seen leather dresses and tops floating around, but it was pretty unlikely you were going to wear a leather top in the summer.  I’m with you—while I love fashion, I would prefer not to have a heat stroke because of it!

Now, though, you can more comfortably wear your leather pieces.  If you grabbed one on sale, kudos to you!

Just remember, the key to wearing, say, a leather top or dress, is to be sure to mix your textures.  Soften the look with silk or snuggly top if you are wearing a leather skirt.  Or add suede pumps.  The goal is a trendy autumn outfit, not dominatrix chic (unless, of course, that’s what you’re going for)!

See easy, chic ways to style a leather dress in this post.

And of course, if leather is not for you, there are a LOT of excellent vegan leather and faux options.  So whether it’s your ethics or price point, you can still have some cute winter and fall outfits!

Are you going to level up your fall style with some hot leather pieces?

Moody Florals

Floral prints are always thought of as a spring staple.  But now, just like animal prints are overlapping into fall, so are florals!  This time, however, instead of the almost standard light backgrounds, florals this season are coming in darker backdrops.

I’ve seen a lot of amazing autumn dresses featuring florals on those jewel-tone backgrounds that are trending right now.  Outfits for fall following this trend have florals on cozy autumn background colors like rust, black and even navy.  It lends an interesting romantic goth vibe to outfits this season.

What do you think of this “moody” look to women’s fall fashion?

The Smart Suit

We have been  reintroduced to the power suit as one of the necessary outfits for women’s fall fashion. Which is great, if you work in corporate America.

But if you don’t, you can still get that smart suit look by pairing a blazer with a skirt and adding a belt at the waist.  I’m thinking I’m going to try this version of the trend.  I just haven’t needed an actual suit for a while.

Or, you can give a more feminine nod to the trend by adding a belt to your cardigan-skirt or cardigan-slacks combination.

Is one of your go-to fall fashion outfits going to be the Smart Suit?

Tiny Bags

If you’ve ever had dreams of feeling like a giant, now is the time to make that dream a reality.

But seriously, the new “it” bag is a teeny tiny version of a real bag. Sure, it won’t hold much—it might not even hold your ID, but hey. Fashion is sometimes more about fun than function.

Plus, they’re so cute. Just think of them as big key chains.

Do you think you can pull off the tiny bag trend?

Asymmetric Neckline

A lot of trendy fall outfits are featuring this type of neckline.  I think it gives an effortless chic style to any type of outfit.

You’ll find it in casual autumn clothes like t-shirts and sweatshirts, but then also with blouses and dresses.

Are you in love with the asymmetric neckline?

Preppy

If Prep school style is your jam, you’re going to love this fall fashion trend.  Checks and plaids will be everywhere, so be prepared with your sweater vests and button-down tops to pair with sweaters.

Expect to see the usual grays and browns, but there are also fun iterations in bright colors. See how I made a leather dress preppy chic in this post!

Do preppy styles make you want to pull out your fave nerd glasses?

Long Coats

Continuing the theme on varying proportions, coat hems are going waaayy down!

It’s all about fall wear that makes a statement and this accessory is no different.  Along with more length, expect to see bold prints, including animal prints, and even strong shoulders as a nod to the 80s. Click now to see some of the best trench coats for fall, from classic to edgy!

Are you going to wear bold outerwear this fall and winter?

Fun Hats

This trend is another way to add some fun and interest to your fall outfits.  There are a lot of bucket hat styles, but to add an extra punch, go for something that will spark conversation, if you dare! Faux fur, fringe, vinyl…whatever you can imagine, do it!

Will you add more fun to your fall outfits?

So these are the major colors, styles, and accessories that are trending for Fall 2019.  Fashion is about expressing yourself and having fun, so even if there is a style you wouldn’t normally wear, consider trying it.  You may be surprised that by stepping out of your comfort zone, you might find another truly amazing style.

What do you think of the Fall 2019 Styles? Can you see yourself adding any of these to your wardrobe? What fall and winter outfits are you looking forward to wearing?
